As I got nearer there was Peter who shouted at me he was going to support me all day as he said "it was about time this record was broken!". Peter was great, regular as clockwork he would hand me up little paint pots with grape juice in and some solids too. Only downside was by the time I hit the finishing circuit I was full up, and managed to threw up (over my none driveside wheel) much to the delight (not) of the spectators lining the circuit. As a result or my ride and two of my club mates we either won the 12hr Team prize or we came second in the BAR. I would need to dig out stuff filed away who knows where to confirm which as we did both but I'm sure if it was 1991.

The link below is to a folder containing scans of the SCU 1992 handbook and the 2002 handbook which may have some further corrections to your blog post on Scottish Cycling Records unless of course some of them are superseded by the likes of John Archibald et al

https://u.pcloud.link/publi...

Re: Contact

Hi, I have just come across a medal belonging to my father in law. It is for open 50 miles first team, A A Crichton, 1937, Greenock Paragon cc. I was wondering if you further information on him and the club. I will try a search at the Watt Library in Greenock and see if they hold any archive material of the Greenock clubs. Thanks for commenting on my site. This most likely sounds like a 25 mile handicap race organised by Strathclyde CC. If that is the case, your grandfather would have been racing in his own Greenock club colours. I'm not sure if T Park refers to the location or course where the race was run, or to a person.

Re: Scottish women’s 10 mile time trial records

This is really interesting information and I wonder if you might be able to help me. I have my grandfather's cycling medal. It states; 'Strathclyde CC 25 Mile 2nd H'cap T Park 1931. Would Strathclyde Cycling Club be his club, or would it have been where the competition took place? He was from Greenock and I always assumed he belonged to one of the Greenock clubs.

Re: Central Scotland Wheelers Cowie Road Race, 1986

I may have been the organiser that day. 34 years ago? Jeezus! I don't recall any details, just the fact that you only needed one lead-car, and a car to transport the single commissaire. Life was simpler then, but judging at the finish-line could be difficult.

Re: Contact

I have a photo of the Scottish Women's 10 mile time trial at Millerston Terminus and think it is from 1950's. It sounds like the rules might not be clearly defined, or perhaps they are just not available to find. Once you start looking into records and rules, it becomes quite a "rabbit hole"! I find that sometimes a lack of info from the governing body can prompt these investigations and some of my articles have come about that way. I always hope they are a helpful addition to the info available out there.

Re: Scottish 24 hour time trial records

A few months ago , there was a discussion on 'Scottish Records' whether they can be achieved anywhere worldwide , or only in Scotland . Also could an Italian for instance , be the Scottish record holder by breaking a record in Scotland ,and what are the definitions ? There were many unanswered questions I believe . The 'hour record on the track' prompted this query / discussion.

Re: Scottish time trial records

Cheers David.
